According to a release, the two institutions, UL and PEN, will officially sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 28, 2024, to mark the beginning of transformation in STEM education at the UL.
The MoU, when signed, will provide teachers the needed skills to enable them to deliver contemporary STEM education to students of the state-owned University of Liberia.
The release stated that Acting UL President Prof. Dr. Al Hassan Conteh and Dr. Heather Beem, Founder & CEO of PEN, convened the meeting at the University of Liberia Capitol Hill Campus on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. It added that education stakeholders in Liberia, including representatives from the Ministry of Education and members of the UL Administration, attended the meeting.
Practical Education Network is a non-profit organization that works with educational stakeholders to improve students learning outcomes by building teacher capacity. The teacher training program at PEN is infused with MIT-style “Learning-By-Doing”, which focuses on delivering hands-on science and mathematics lessons regardless of resource constraints.
